Claris
The Community Health Centre at Claris is open from
09.00 – 5:00pm on weekdays.
For after-hours health care (overnight, weekends and public holidays) the Aotea Health team provides an after-hours, on-call service for anyone on the islands requiring urgent medical treatment or advice.
This service is provided by the on-call GP or NP, and is supported by an on-call registered nurse, 7 days a week, all year round.
Please do not call the after hours service for non-urgent tasks (ie: such as repeat medication requests, or standard appointment bookings).

What happens when I call 111?
If you end up with an emergency situation and have to call 111 and ask for an ambulance, the moment the call is connected, the cogs start whirring and the call centre despatcher will be sending out an alert on the PRIME pager system so that the ambulance crew can get to the machine and get underway. At the same time, the Aotea Health team will get the same message and they will communicate with the ambulance even while it is on the road, to determine the best course of action.
Sometimes the Health Centre crew will attend and other times they will remain at the clinic and prepare for the ambulance to return.
The despatcher will also (if necessary) locate and notify a rescue helicopter, so that they can get as much preparation time as needed for a flight out to the Barrier.
What happens when I call the Health Centre After Hours?
When you call the after hours team because you have an urgent medical need, the clinician that responds will give you the best advice on what to do. They will decide if, when and where you will need to be seen and by whom, and if they think it is warranted, they will call for an ambulance or helicopter for evacuation.
